Microsoft Game Studios’ Halo team is looking for a Game Designer to design and implement the UI for one of the most exciting and creative intellectual properties in the industry.

As a Game Designer focused on the UI, you’re responsible for identifying user experience requirements, and creating the most elegant UI system to support the needs of players.

Responsibilities

-Design the HUD and front end menus in order to provide the framework for visual design and inform the technical plans of the UI

-Define and lead UI prototyping

-Master the use of game engine tools to integrate UI assets into the game

-Contribute to the design of UI tools

-Work closely with User Researchers, Artists and Developers to iterate on best solutions to UI challenges

-Proactively identify and address risks

-Inform production plans

-Participate in all phases of the project, from concept through final polish

Qualifications

-3+ years of experience working on UI, preferably on console games

-Experience scripting is required

-Experience building UI with in-house or 3rd party UI tools (e.g. XUI, Scaleform) is required

-Deep understanding of UI design for multiplayer console games and best principles of interactive design

-Strong skills in crafting effective page flows, layouts and wireframes

-Avid Halo player

-Passion for and knowledge of games – you’ve played both the latest and the greatest, and can speak to what qualities make a great game

-Excellent cross-functional communication skills

-Fluent with common design tools such as Adobe CS5 products

-Ability to produce high quality work quickly with the tenacity to produce several rounds of iteration in pursuit of the best design solution

-Degree in design, HCI, or related field is preferred

Desired Qualifications:

Midco Connections Second Site to add 200 Jobs in Fargo, South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, SD/PRNewswire/ ~ Midco Connections officially opened the doors today at its newest location: a 200-seat call center in Fargo, ND. A large delegation of business people and community representatives attended the official Ribbon Cutting at the new site, located at 4725 Amber Valley Parkway in southwest Fargo.

“The Fargo location adds flexibility and room for expansion,” said Midco Connections Vice President Cordell Brooks. “We’re in a 24/7 industry, and having a multi-site operation allows us to manage calls more efficiently during higher volume periods. If one facility is faced with a weather emergency, we’re equipped to seamlessly move customer calls to another location with no lapse in service to our clients.”

Brooks said the Fargo location has added 70 jobs to the Fargo economy, and he expects the center will bring as many as 300 new jobs, including management, training and service-related positions, to the Fargo area over the next three years.

Midco Connections considered several Midwest locations before choosing Fargo, ND. “A well educated, high quality workforce and the ability to utilize Midcontinent Communications’ data infrastructure were factors that were key to selecting Fargo,” Brooks said.

An interview gives you the opportunity to showcase your qualifications to an employer, so it pays to be well prepared. The following information provides some helpful hints.

Preparation:

  • Learn about the organization.
  • Have a specific job or jobs in mind.
  • Review your qualifications for the job.
  • Be ready to briefly describe your experience, showing how it relates it the job.
  • Be ready to answer broad questions, such as “Why should I hire you?” “Why do you want this job?” “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”
  • Practice an interview with a friend or relative.
  • Personal appearance:

  • Be well groomed.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • Do not chew gum or smoke.
  • The interview:

  • Be early.
  • Learn the name of your interviewer and greet him or her with a firm handshake.
  • Use good manners with everyone you meet.
  • Relax and answer each question concisely.
  • Use proper English—avoid slang.
  • Be cooperative and enthusiastic.
  • Use body language to show interest—use eye contact and don’t slouch.
  • Ask questions about the position and the organization, but avoid questions whose answers can easily be found on the company Web site.
  • Also avoid asking questions about salary and benefits unless a job offer is made.
  • Thank the interviewer when you leave and shake hands.
  • Send a short thank you note following the interview.
  • Information to bring to an interview:

  • Social Security card.
  • Government-issued identification (driver’s license).
  • Resume or application. Although not all employers require a resume, you should be able to furnish the interviewer information about your education, training, and previous employment.
  • References. Employers typically require three references. Get permission before using anyone as a reference. Make sure that they will give you a good reference. Try to avoid using relatives as references.
  • Transcripts. Employers may require an official copy of transcripts to verify grades, coursework, dates of attendance, and highest grade completed or degree awarded.
